Baylor Scott & White Health Clinical Microbiologist Job in Temple, Texas


Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a senior faculty member to serve as the director of clinical Microbiology to join its team. The candidate should have experience and success in clinical research to build upon an already established excellent clinical service. The laboratory provides infectious disease testing for healthcare providers in Central Texas. The section of microbiology is responsible for infectious disease testing of pediatric and adult patients, functions as the core laboratory for special testing in association with the molecular laboratory for system hospitals and clinics in the region, and processes over 300,000 specimens annually. The candidate is expected to work closely with the other areas in the core laboratory including chemistry, hematology, flow cytometry, coagulation, urinalysis, transfusion medicine and areas of surgical pathology that includes a staff of over 300 technicians and 25 medical and Ph.D pathologists and scientists. They will also closely work with and be a resource for infectious disease, pulmonology and critical care providers. The successful candidate will directly manage and oversee the Microbiology department from a technical, clinical, quality, regulatory and operational perspective. Demonstrable leadership, problem solving and innovative skills are desirable. The candidate will be actively involved in training of technical students, medical students, resident and fellows and is expected to provide technical expertise at a system level.

The candidate must have at least five years of experience in microbiology with a Ph.D, M.D with fellowship training and certification in microbiology or M.D. / Ph.D. with experience or foreign equivalent degree with appropriate certifications. M.D. candidates must possess or be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in Texas.

This position will be located at Scott and White Medical Center - Temple; a 636 bed level I trauma center in Temple. Located in the Texas Hill Country on the I-35 corridor, Temple is part of one of the fastest growing regions in the country.
